There used to be a time in my life when I used to despise oatmeal. In fact, the very first time I had oat meal was by boiling oats in milk and directly eating it. Needless to say, I hated the bland taste. No hard feelings towards fitness freaks who try it but some not-so-diet disciplined people like me, don’t like the bland taste.

But once I started experimenting, it turned out to be one of my favorite breakfast choices of all time.

There are many ways you can make an oatmeal tasty but I am sharing some of the possibilities below for making oatmeal as decent breakfast option:

Step 1 — Take a couple of scoops of oats. I use Quaker oats due to their availability but you may use any brand or type of oats that you like. You may want to stick with simple oats though and stay away from masala (spiced) oats since they do more harm than good to your body.

Step 2 — Add a cup of hot milk or water (depending on your preference) to the oats and let it sit for a couple of minutes. This makes the oats soft and easy to eat. You can vary the quantity of both oats and milk depending on your diet and hunger.

Step 3- If you have a sweet tooth like me, add a table spoon of honey to the mixture in step 2.

Step 4 — Take another bowl and add a handful of dry fruits. I like a mixture of cashew nuts (my personal favorite), almonds, raisins and pistachios. You can add peanuts too for more crunch. Add some fruits to the dry-fruits. I alternate between bananas, grapes, apple, dates, strawberries, and mangoes depending on the season and the availability of these fruits. You can mix and match and make different combinations.

Step 5- Add your nutty fruity mixture to the simple version of oatmeal prepared in step 3. Enjoy your super-tasty oatmeal.

The entire thing takes less than 5 minutes to prepare and is a Godsend for working people with hectic mornings. On top of that, this is one of the healthiest breakfast options around and offers a great mixture of carbohydrates and good fats while keeping you full for a good 3–4 hours.

p.s. — If you don’t have a sweet-tooth you can remove the honey and add some cinnamon or salt to your oatmeal.
